The pipe-smoking character is reminiscent of J.R. "Bob" Dobbs. Given that the first Church of the SubGenius pamphlet was in 1979, this would indicate that Dobbs was in telepathic contact with you before the church's formation. That most likely makes you a minor prophet. Maybe the D Minor prophet?

Regardless, best wishes for abundant Slack in 2025. We'll all be needing it given what the year has in store for us.

I wrote that before I read the blog where you mention girding ourselves for what the New Year may bring. We obviously have similar concerns.

As should anyone with a brain.

Just an FYI. The video wasn't available in the basic email I received, but worked fine in the Substack App on Android. Interesting to see the creative process, thanks for taking the time to do this.

Thank you, Rob. That happened to nearly everyone. I've sent a separate newsletter with the missing video and a brief explanation.

Dang technology!

I really enjoyed the narrated, visual video walkthrough of your process, Wayno. It further increased my appreciation of what all (skill, time, and effort) goes into making each cartoon for your readers!

I'm curious: When you do the digital sketch, how are you doing that? Meaning with what tool (digital pen? stylus? mouse?) via what interface (tablet? Wacom-type graphics pad? or???)? And straight into Photoshop?

Bruce, thanks for asking. I should've included that info.

I often start with an extremely scribbly pencil drawing in my sketchbook. I scan that and resize/position it in a panel template in Photoshop. Then, also within Photoshop, I draw the digital sketch with a Wacom stylus and tablet.

I use the stylus/tablet in place of a mouse for all of my computer work, even web browsing, reading email, etc.

Got it, thanks! Yeah, it would be awkward and tiring to try and do all that with a mouse!
