Yours With Gratitude
Two previews, a cartoon-pop painting, and a character borrowed from a beloved comic strip.
Our Thanksgiving Weekend blog post is now online. For one of our recent gags, I revived an obscure comic strip character from the 1970s, and shared a funky holiday tune—not a Christmas song, though. It’s still too early for that.
Before taking a long weekend, I produced a stack of cartoons featuring popular robot toys, 19th-century prospectors, a Renaissance artist, an art collector, and a (thinly disguised) cartoonist.
Looking Ahead & Looking Back
Our first sneak preview features a character who looks suspiciously like your faithful ink monkey, although it’s an idealized version without the five o’clock shadow and circles under the eyes.
While working on this panel, I temporarily hid the word balloon to see how it worked as a visual composition. I thought my beloved newsletter subscribers might enjoy a peek into my process.
Our throwback image is a 2007 painting titled Comic Strip, meant as a deconstruction of a four-panel comic.

Saluting Sparky
Tuesday, November 26, was the 102nd anniversary of Charles Schulz’s birth. Two years ago, dozens of cartoonists paid tribute to Schulz in honor of his centennial. The above panel was my contribution.
A signed color print of this gag, along with the original art, is in the collection of the Charles Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, California, along with art from many other cartoonists who celebrated Schulz’s 100th.
I hadn’t planned to (nearly) synchronize with his birthday again this year, but I did a gag referencing Peanuts on Thanksgiving Day.
Keep those pipe pics, questions, comments, and t-shirt modeling photos coming in! I’m always open to answering questions in the newsletter, too. Remember, this is for you, and your input makes it better.
Tonight (November 30), we’re going out to see comedian Ronny Chieng perform here in Pittsburgh, and I want to be well-rested for an evening of robust laughter, so I’ll sign off now.
Thanks, as always, for your readership and support.
Best wishes from your cartoonist,
Wayno
