Happy Saturday, Cartoon Community.
For the second year in a row, I get to display this nifty graphic:
I’ve been nominated for a National Cartoonists Society “Silver Reuben” award in the Newspaper Panels Division. I’m thrilled that my fellow ink monkeys thought enough of Bizarro to name me as a finalist, along with Dave Blazek and Bill Whitehead.
Also, our electricity stayed on all week, and I’ve posted a new blog entry for you.
The latest comic art involved camping, fishery, formalwear, literature, and other diverse topics.
Looking Ahead & Looking Back
This old man of the sea will hit the funny pages in July.
Our look to the past is the cartoon octet I submitted for the Reuben Awards. You’ve seen these before, so please forgive the reruns. On television, this would be referred to as a clip show.
After I selected the final eight, I rearranged the order countless times. Here they are, as submitted.
Jiminy was one of the most popular gags of 2024, so I led with it.
Second, a gag based on a recently purchased appliance.
This music-related gag generated tons of social media shares.
It seems that many of my favorite gags are related to music. I was happily surprised when this one was shared by Mars Bonfire, who wrote the 1960s hit “Born to Be Wild.”
I had to take a nap after drawing the supersized Scrabble board.
The eternal debate in the DC Comics Universe.
“He’s prehistory.”
Another musical mashup served as a bookend with Jiminy Hendrix. I liked the joke and was also pleased with the composition of the drawing.
Wish me luck in August. Whether or not I win the award, it’s always great to be in a banquet hall full of cartoonists, many wearing shoes and pants for the first time in months.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there.
See you next Saturday.
Your cartoonist,
Wayno
Hilarious cartoons!
Love everyone of these comics in today's post. Thanks for all the laughs.
