Hello, Dear Readers.
I’ve kicked the virus that had me out of commission and I’ve been working on new humorous material for you. I’ve also uploaded a fresh blog post with nine extra cartoons celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day.
My latest batch of scribbles featured a surrealist painting, sheep, a courtroom scene, couples counseling, a magic lamp, and root vegetables.
Looking Ahead & Looking Back
The May 10 Bizarro comic features a well-dressed genie.
This archival item is a letterpress postcard made for a community celebration. Letterpress printing is an old-school process using wood or metal “cuts” that not only deposit ink on the printing surface but also leave a physical impression.
These are the cuts I had made for printing the postcards. They can almost stand on their own as art objects.
Bonus Throwback Cartoon
This was one of the first handful of gags I wrote for Dan Piraro. It ran 14 years ago this week.
I did the submission sketch on a Post-In note using a black pen and gray markers. The caption was written on white correction tape. I love the lo-fi scruffiness of this piece, and I sometimes feel that my finished art is a bit too “controlled.”
Picture at an Exhibition
The original art for this Bizarro panel will be displayed at Ohio State University’s Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum, in The Nancy Show. The exhibit, curated by cartoonist Brian Walker is part of the Nancy Fest weekend. Brian contacted me to ask for a high-resolution image of the comic for the show and suggested that I consider donating the original art to the Billy Ireland Library.
I’m honored and thrilled to have my work displayed in this exhibit and as part of the Museum’s permanent collection.
Thanks to everyone for the kind expressions of empathy when I was under the weather last weekend. Your sentiments warmed my heart.
Please keep the comments and questions coming in. Your contributions to the newsletter are always appreciated.
All the best from your cartoonist,
Wayno
Good stuff, love Nuancy, unfortunately I lack that
Make sure you add those 3 rocks when sending 'Nancy' to OSU...!!!
